Support Program
PLEASE NOTE:
- Failure to follow these guidelines will result in rejection of your
application.
- No more than two projects are likely to be funded in 2008.
- Only CIAG Faculty may apply for these grants.
Purpose
The overall goal of this program is to promote collaboration and enhance
research competitiveness in genomic areas that meet College of Agriculture and
Life Sciences/ Experiment Station mission-oriented research goals. Grants
will provide funding for research personnel working with CIAG Faculty. It
is expected that the proposed support position has the potential to enhance
newly developed or ongoing research programs and contribute to innovative and
significant research.
Due to the source of this funding, the personnel must support research that
reflects the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences/Experiment Station's
mission-oriented approach toward directed research. The research goal must
clearly articulate a specific outcome that benefits animal agriculture and/or
shows a link between animal and human health. In addition, the research
should reflect CIAG's efforts to encourage collaboration among faculty, enhance
research competitiveness, and promote cutting edge research.
Eligibility
Faculty members who are affiliated with CIAG.
Use of Funds
- Grant funds may be used only for salary (and fringe
benefits) or research-related support personnel such as post-doctoral
research associates, visiting scientists, and research technicians; and
stipends for graduate students (funds cannot be used for tuition.
- The maximum award is $25,000 per year per grant and
requires a 100% match of the total requested, from non-CIAG sources.
- All grant funds must be expended by June 30, 2009: no extensions will be
permitted.
Content of Application
- Cover Page - PDF Format or
Word Format
- Description of Research Support Position Requested including type
of position (e.g., post doc, research associate, adjunct instructor,
graduate research assistant, or visiting scientist); anticipated total
salary and fringe benefits for each year or fraction thereof; and source(s)
of the required match funds. Describe details of research to be
conducted and how it will enhance research competitiveness and help meet
research goals.
- Plan for utilization of position, e.g., name of faculty member(s)
whom position will be assigned. If the position is to be shared by
faculty, address compatibility in the type of genomics research conducted
and work to be peformed for different faculty.
- Research statement clearly articulating how the specific outcome
of the genomics research supported by this personnel will benefit animal
agriculture and/or show a link between animal and human health; and a list
of current and/or future projects to be supported by this position and
funding sources.
- Biographical Sketch: one for each investigator; two page
maximum, single-spaced. Biographical sketches should include recent
publications (10 maximum) and recent funding sources (last 3 years).
- Budget: no indirect costs; one page maximum (REMINDER:
$25,000 maximum). Provide a budget justification on the budget page or
on a separate page. A match equal to the requested funding must be
described.
- NO GOLDSHEET IS REQUIRED. No indirect costs should be shown
for CIAG Research Support grants.
(NOTE: Description, Plan, and Research Statement should be no more
than 3 pages in length, 12 point font with 1 inch margins).
Submission Procedures
Completed applications are due on July 15, 2008 by 4:00 p.m.
- Submit one (1) PDF Complete electronic copy of the following materials to

a. The completed application form (without signatures),
b. The proposal (not to exceed 3 pages),
and
c. The curriculum vita of each applicant
(as described above);
and
- Submit the original with signatures to:

Announcement of Awards
Awards will be announced before August 1, 2008. Funds will be made available
to grantees on August 1, 2008 and must be expended by June 30, 2009.
A final report, including a description of research productivity, must
be submitted no later than May 30, 2009.
